How long does a loft conversion, extension or renovation take?

How long does a loft conversion, extension or renovation take?

There is no single timetable for every loft, extension or renovation. The amount of work, decisions, approvals, deliveries and what is discovered in the building all affect it. Ask for a schedule that explains the stages and the assumptions behind the dates.

Count preparation as well as time on site

Surveys, design, approvals and product choices happen before visible building work. Ask which items must be settled before a start date can be confirmed. An intended starting window is different from a fully agreed schedule.

Know when your decisions are needed

Kitchens, glazing, stairs and bathroom fittings can affect work long before they are installed. Ask for a short list of decisions and ordering dates. Confirm who checks deliveries and what happens if an item arrives damaged or late.

Ask how the schedule will be updated

Work on an existing house can uncover things that need another decision. Inspections, drying and supplier lead times also affect the sequence. Agree how changes will be explained, and include handover and outstanding-item checks in the schedule rather than ending it at the last major installation.

Examples from our completed projects

The Fulham Waterford Road project includes kitchen, loft and refurbishment work across several rooms. The Chiswick wraparound album shows both the extension footprint and the finished kitchen and hallway connections. Use the scope illustrated by these projects to discuss dependencies between structural work, services, joinery and finishes when assessing a proposed programme.
